Performs firefighting work in the protection of life and property by combating, extinguishing fires under emergency conditions which involves personal hazard. Recognizes, maintains, and ability to utilize firefighting and medical tools/equipment/apparatus in a safe/effective/efficient manner. Studies emergency response methods/techniques and performs routine work in the maintenance of firefighting equipment, apparatus and quarters. Implements EMT level medical care to patients. Involved in mitigating other emergency incidents such as Hazardous Material, Rescue, and Natural Disasters. Participates in community events, fire prevention activities, public education activities, fire report completion, cleaning of stations, and other daily demands.
Responsible for Checking Emergency Response Apparatus, Equipment on Apparatus, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), while Exhibiting a Teamwork Attitude.
Responds to Emergency Events with Life Safety, Incident Stability, and Property Conservation being the priorities.
Personal Development of Cognitive and Physical Motor Skills to Enhance Job Performance.
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. State of Kansas EMT (will accept National Registry but must be able to transfer to Kansas certification). Per Sedgwick County Policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance. Must have or obtain valid US driver’s license non-commercial Class B, or higher within first three months of employment. CPAT Certification (completed within the previous 12 months of hiring).
Preferred Qualifications: Currently employed for at least one year as a fire fighter in a career fire department. Associate’s in Fire Science. State of Kansas AEMT certification (will accept National Registry but must be able to transfer to Kansas certification).
