Lighthouse Lab Services is excited to represent a respected healthcare facility in Charlottesville, VA, seeking an experienced Senior Laboratory Histologist to join their dedicated team.

Position Summary

The Senior Laboratory Histologist will perform a full range of histology functions including accessioning, embedding, microtomy, and slide preparation, applying scientific knowledge and adhering to standard operating procedures. This individual will assist in maintaining laboratory policies and procedures, operate and maintain instrumentation, and manage inventory.

The Senior Histologist will also support the Laboratory Manager with daily operations, workload coordination, departmental goals, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction. This position plays a leadership role within the department, often assuming charge responsibilities in the absence of the manager.

Responsibilities

• Perform histology duties including specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining.

• Ensure adherence to quality and safety standards across all laboratory activities.

• Maintain laboratory instruments, supplies, and technical documentation.

• Support and mentor other team members, fostering collaboration and efficiency.

• Assist with compliance to CLIA, CAP, and other regulatory standards.

• Serve as acting lead when needed to prioritize workloads and troubleshoot issues.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate’s degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science (required); Bachelor’s degree preferred.

• Certification: ASCP certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) required.

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of histology experience required; immunohistochemistry (IHC) experience preferred.
