About The Role

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will support the design, deployment, and maintenance of cloud and on-prem infrastructure, including systems for retail locations, authentication centers, and offices. You will focus on platform engineering, automation, endpoint management, and user administration to ensure operational efficiency and system reliability. Working closely with other engineers and administrators, you will troubleshoot issues, implement innovative solutions, and provide Tier III support. This role requires a passion for learning, scripting, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to improving processes and supporting a diverse workforce across The RealReal.

What You Get To Do Everyday

  • Design and build complex, scalable, and resilient system architectures from the ground up.
  • Lead the design, integration, implementation, and management of platforms for business applications.
  • Deploy and administer on-premise servers (VSphere), managing Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, file/print, virtualization, storage (SAN, NAS), and backup/recovery processes.
  • Collaborate with leadership and business partners to define project requirements, timelines, objectives, and standard operating procedures, providing regular project updates to stakeholders.
  • Deploy, maintain, and monitor application stacks in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), leveraging infrastructure as code.
  • Develop and champion scalable, API-driven automation to eliminate manual tasks, reduce errors, and improve reliability in system administration and endpoint management.
  • Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and resource optimization, utilizing monitoring tools for system health.
  • Proactively identify system risks, develop disaster recovery plans, and implement backup and redundancy strategies to ensure business continuity.
  • Consistently adhere to change management processes, ensuring all system modifications are meticulously planned, documented, tested, approved, and communicated.
  • Diagnose and resolve system and application issues, assisting with blameless postmortems and root cause analysis to improve reliability.
  • Identify and implement automated solutions for system administration
  • Effectively manage third-party vendor relationships and evaluate new technologies.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and administrators, fostering skill development, leading knowledge-sharing, and promoting continuous learning within the team.
  • Administer workstations and mobile devices using MDM platforms (Jamf, Intune), handling configuration, patching, and endpoint security.
  • Provide Tier III escalated technical support, including white-glove support, and meticulously document issues within the ticketing system.
  • Participate in scheduled on-call rotations to address emergency needs.

What You Bring To The Role

Minimum Requirements:

  • 7+ years in systems engineering or administration
  • Proficiency in Windows and Mac environments. Experience with virtualization (VMWare VSphere), server management (on prem & cloud), and endpoint configuration. Working knowledge of networking concepts (DNS, DHCP, Routing) and information security best practices.
  • Ability to use APIs and scripting (Powershell, Python) to automate tasks and integrate applications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for diagnosing system, application, and user issues, with an eye for detail.
  • Effective verbal and written skills to support technical and non-technical users and maintain clear documentation.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality support to diverse stakeholders, including executives and operational staff.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong proficiency in network administration and troubleshooting, including a deep understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, and switching concepts.
  • Proficient in engineering and administrating IAM systems and processes (e.g., Active Directory, Okta, Azure AD, Sailpoint), with a strong understanding of authentication protocols, SSO, and MFA.
  • Experience supporting retail and/or warehouse environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies or ITIL practices in IT operations.

The expected salary range for this role is $126,759.00-$145,068.00. To determine starting pay we carefully consider a variety of factors, including primary work location and an evaluation of a candidate’s skills, experience, market demands, and internal parity. Additionally, salary is just one component of TRR’s total rewards package. Depending on role, employees may also be eligible for a bonus program, incentive pay and benefits.
