Job Description



AECOM is seeking an experienced Traffic Engineer to join our dynamic New Jersey Traffic Engineering team. This role involves leading complex traffic engineering projects, providing technical expertise, and ensuring compliance with state and federal standards. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience with transportation systems, and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead traffic engineering projects, including planning, design, and implementation.
  • Perform advanced traffic operational analysis using tools such as Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, and other modeling software.
  • Prepare and review traffic impact studies, signal design plans, and roadway safety analyses
  • following NJTA, NJDOT and MUTCD standards.
  • Develop traffic control plans, detour plans, and transportation management strategies for public and private sector projects.
  • Coordinate with NJDOT, NJTA, local agencies, and stakeholders to deliver successful projects.
  • Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and documentation for clients and management.

Qualifications



Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Transportation or Traffic Engineering plus 6 years of traffic engineering experience, including project leadership or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in NJ is required
  • Experience in traffic analysis and design software (Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, AutoCAD/MicroStation)
  • Experience with NJDOT standards, MUTCD, and AASHTO guidelines

 

Preferred

Qualifications

:

  • 8 or more years of experience
  • Experience with NJDOT and NJTA projects and familiarity with state permitting processes
  • Experience in traffic signal design and signal timing optimization
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • PTOE is plus
