Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled
Inpatient Medical Coder to join our clients' team. This role requires at least two years of hands-on inpatient coding experience, ensuring accurate assignment of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and DRG codes for hospital stays. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of inpatient coding guidelines, MS-DRGs, and payer regulations, ensuring compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance requirements.
Inpatient Medical Coder Responsibilities - Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and MS-DRG codes for inpatient hospital encounters
- Review medical records, discharge summaries, and clinical documentation to validate code selection
- Ensure coding compliance with federal regulations, payer policies, and hospital guidelines
- Work closely with clinical documentation specialists (CDI), physicians, and revenue cycle teams to ensure documentation supports appropriate code assignment
- Identify and resolve coding-related denials and assist with appeals
- Stay up to date on coding changes, compliance requirements, and reimbursement methodologies
- Maintain productivity and accuracy standards while managing a high-volume workload
Inpatient Medical Coder Requirements: - 2+ years of inpatient medical coding experience (Certification alone does NOT qualify)
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Medical Coding, or a related field preferred
- Certifications (Preferred, Not Required): CCS, CIC, or RHIT/RHIA with inpatient coding experience
- Proficiency in EHR/EMR systems, coding software, and MS-DRGs
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
