Job Description

ABOUT mpathic.ai

mpathic is keeping humans safe in the AI era through automated tools and expert datasets that are rooted in psychology and powered by clinicians.

We are a series A start-up backed by Tier 1 investors including Foundry.vc and Next Frontier Capital.

ABOUT THE ROLE

mpathic is seeking a detail-oriented Technical Project Manager to support our clinical experts and ensure on-time, high-quality delivery of client projects. You will onboard and support experts, review roleplays, provide feedback, and maintain clear cross-team communication. This role offers a front-row seat to shaping the safety of cutting-edge AI systems alongside leading clinicians and behavioral experts.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys connecting people, processes, and technology in a fast-moving AI safety environment. Strong candidates are proactive, reliable, and comfortable balancing autonomy with timely escalation. This is not a typical 9-to-5 job and will require flexible hours to manage client project velocity. We highly value work/life balance and encourage all team members to work reasonable hours, but want to be up-front that the working hours can ebb and flow.

You will support a confidential initiative involving AI safety protocols and mental health policy for large language models (LLMs). Work includes designing and reviewing roleplays, red-teaming model behavior, identifying edge cases, and contributing to psychometrics, rubrics, and evaluation criteria. A strong commitment to safety, ethics, and confidentiality is essential.

This role reports to the Human Data Operations Manager and partners closely with cross-functional leadership.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Expert Coordination & Training
  • Onboard, train, and support clinical experts on roleplay, red-team, and evaluation projects
  • Provide SOPs, context, and guidance to ensure consistent, high-quality output
  • Host live or async trainings to reinforce safety guardrails and project expectations

Quality Review & Feedback

  • Review roleplays, red-team outputs, and annotations for accuracy, clinical validity, and protocol adherence
  • Deliver timely, actionable feedback to maintain mpathic quality standards
  • Identify risks, gaps, or trends and escalate to VP of Clinical AI or product teams as needed

Project Management & Workflows

  • Maintain trackers, timelines, and throughput expectations
  • Serve as the operational bridge between clinical experts and internal teams
  • Coordinate assignments, monitor progress, and remove blockers
  • Ensure secure organization and documentation of roleplay data

Cross-Functional Communication

  • Communicate updates, risks, and needs clearly and consistently
  • Partner with product and operations to improve workflows and tooling
  • Prepare internal status updates and final project reports

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in project management, operations, or workflow coordination
  • Background in clinical psychology, social work, behavioral health, or related field
  • Availability to work Pacific hours (fully remote)
  • Strong organizational and feedback skills
  • Comfort reviewing sensitive mental health and risk content
  • High ethical standards and confidentiality handling
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention, risk assessment, and safety planning
  • Interest in AI, NLP, ML, and safety evaluation
  • Proficiency using Slack, Microsoft 365, and LLM tools

Above & Beyond
  • Experience managing clinicians, expert crowds, or human evaluators
  • Clinical licensure
  • Familiarity with AI safety, red teaming, or qualitative review
  • Startup or fast-moving delivery experience
  • Proficiency with Asana, Airtable, Notion, or Trello
  • Trust & safety, policy, or content moderation background
  • Experience with clinical AI/ML or data annotation
